Epic Games introduced two iconic characters from Street Fighter in Fortnite Chapter 2 – Season 5. The leak surrounding this character’s arrival went viral after the tweet from Fortnite hinting at another massive collaboration.
That’s according to leaked assets that relate to this season’s next in-game portal – a window to another dimension in the growing Fortnite multiverse which heralds the arrival of a new franchise collaboration.
Today, images to be shown within the next portal (codenamed “Skirmish”) were decrypted by Epic and scooped up by reliable dataminer ShiinaBR. The pictures show the background of the Suzaku Castle level from Street Fighter 2, while the music is a distorted version of Ryu’s theme.
If that wasn’t enough hype, users also started to see the Street Fighter portal pop up n the game. On the map, you can see an arena from the game wavering in the distance. The data mining around Fortnite might have tipped that this would all go down. But, players are still in awe of how much content continues to get added to the game. There was The Flash content hinted at on social media, but now the Street Fighter characters add an entirely new wrinkle to what’s going on with Epic Games’ cash cow.
Chun-Li and Ryu aren’t the first video game stars to appear in Fortnite this season — fans have also had the chance to pick up skins based on Kratos from God of War and Master Chief from Halo.
This entire season of Fortnite has been jam-packed with other crossovers, including Tron, G.I. Joe’s Snake Eyes, two characters from The Walking Dead, soccer kits from real-world teams, and even the Mandalorian and Baby Yoda (who is absolutely adorable in-game). And the game’s last season was a huge Marvel-themed crossover.
A major section of the Fortnite community was expecting a Mortal Kombat collaboration with the Skirmish Portal’s arrival. However, it seems that players will have to do with Street Fighter for now.
iFireMonkey mentioned in his tweets that Chun-Li has some particles relating to her pickaxe in the game files. This might point to a reactive camo that will be specially designed for the character in Fortnite.
The data miner also mentioned that the Fortnite Item Shop would get a minor update on February 21st before they officially arrived in-game.
